TVS Orbiter Review: Practicality Over Personality?
In 2026, the case for electric scooters is stronger than ever. For daily commuting, an EV simply makes sense—it’s silent, economical, and no longer a risky purchase, provided you choose the right brand.
With the Orbiter, TVS Motor Company enters the conversation with a scooter that takes a very different approach—one that prioritises function over flair.
Design: Built for Purpose, Not Applause
The design of the Orbiter is… divisive. Its boxy proportions won’t appeal to everyone, but spend some time with it, and the reasoning becomes clear—this scooter is designed around usability.
One standout element is the wheel setup: a 14-inch front and 12-inch rear alloy. The larger front wheel helps tackle uneven roads better, which is a welcome move for Indian conditions.
Practicality is where the Orbiter truly shines:
A massive 290 mm footboard—large enough for bulky items like water cans
A long cubby storage that can hold two smartphones (though not ideal on rough roads)
An 845 mm flat seat that prioritises comfort over style
34 litres of underseat storage, enough for two half-face helmets
A full-face helmet doesn’t fit, but overall, the Orbiter makes a strong case as a daily utility machine.
Ergonomics: Accessible and Comfortable
With a seat height of 763 mm, the Orbiter remains approachable for a wide range of riders. For someone around 5’7”, it feels natural and confidence-inspiring—exactly what you’d want from a city commuter.
Features: Practical, But Missing Some Flair
TVS is known for its excellent TFT displays, which makes the absence of one here slightly disappointing. Instead, you get a 5.5-inch colour LCD unit.
That said, it’s still feature-rich:

Convenience features include:

Cruise control
Reverse parking assist
While it may lack visual sophistication, it covers all the essentials expected from a modern EV.
Powertrain: Efficient, Not Exciting
The Orbiter is powered by a 3.1 kWh battery pack with a claimed IDC range of 158 km—more than sufficient for everyday city use.
The hub motor produces 2.5 kW of peak power, and this is where the Orbiter’s intent becomes clear—it’s not built for performance.
Top speed: 68 kmph
0–40 kmph: 6.8 seconds
These figures feel modest, especially by EV standards, but they align with the scooter’s commuter-focused philosophy.
Charging from 0 to 80 per cent takes around four hours, making overnight or office charging convenient.
Ride & Handling: Easy, Stable, Predictable
On the move, the Orbiter delivers a relaxed riding experience. The large front wheel and soft suspension setup help absorb bumps effectively, though the ride can feel slightly bouncy at higher speeds.
It’s light, manoeuvrable, and easy to navigate through traffic. The wide handlebars offer a reassuring sense of control—almost motorcycle-like.
Acceleration is smooth but unhurried, and while the brakes perform adequately, they lack strong feedback. This is a scooter tuned for comfort, not excitement.
Verdict: Sensible Choice, Emotional Compromise
At ₹1.05 lakh (ex-showroom), the TVS Orbiter presents itself as a sensible, no-nonsense electric scooter.
Its strengths are clear:
Excellent practicality
Comfortable ride
Useful everyday features
Strong range for city use
However, it does come with trade-offs:
Underwhelming performance
Polarising design
Lack of premium display
Ultimately, the Orbiter is a scooter that appeals to the head, not the heart.
If your priority is a reliable, practical daily commuter, it’s a solid choice. But if you’re looking for excitement or character, you might want to look elsewhere.
