Public road testing begins as Honda prepares its first electric SUV for the Indian market.

Honda Cars India has started pan-India public road testing for its upcoming electric SUV, marking an important step in the company’s entry into the country’s growing EV market. The prototype being tested is based on the Honda 0 α concept, which was first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.

The test programme will see the electric SUV driven across highways, city roads and varied terrains to evaluate key aspects such as durability, ride comfort, handling, efficiency and overall reliability. Honda will also test the vehicle in extreme heat and monsoon conditions, while assessing charging performance across different charging networks available in India.

The upcoming model is being developed as a practical electric SUV for both city use and lifestyle-oriented driving. Honda has confirmed that the vehicle will be manufactured in India and exported to global markets, with India and Japan among its key markets.

The electric SUV is expected to make its global debut in FY 2026–27, marking Honda’s first major step into India’s rapidly expanding EV segment
