Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Flex Fuel at the IBW Chai–Pakoda Ride: A Real-World Ride Story

Drumil ModiFeature2 months ago

Some rides aren’t about covering distance or chasing destinations. They’re about early-morning chai, hot pakodas, easy conversations and a motorcycle that simply fits the mood. That was the essence of the IBW Chai–Pakoda Ride — and it’s exactly why the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Flex Fuel made for an interesting companion.

While most riders turned up on hardcore adventure bikes or aggressive sport motorcycles, Suzuki’s quarter-litre faired offering sat comfortably between the two, blending everyday usability with long-ride comfort.

Why the Gixxer SF 250 Made Sense

On group rides like these, fuel availability can sometimes be unpredictable. Rather than worry about fuel quality or compatibility, the decision was to ride something future-ready.

The Gixxer SF 250 Flex Fuel isn’t just E20 compliant — it’s E85 ready, meaning it can handle higher ethanol blends without concern. For riders who plan long routes or ride across regions, that peace of mind matters.

Design and Ergonomics: Sporty Without Being Demanding

The Gixxer SF 250 wears its Japanese design roots clearly. Sharp LED headlights, angular body panels and a well-balanced dual-tone paint scheme give it a clean, purposeful look. The tall fuel tank and relatively high-set clip-ons help maintain a sporty stance without pushing the rider into an aggressive posture. The split-seat setup completes the sporty aesthetic.

With a seat height of 800 mm, the motorcycle feels approachable. At 5’7”, flat-footing is easy, and the relatively low 163 kg kerb weight adds to the confidence, especially while manoeuvring in tight spaces or parking on uneven surfaces.

Features That Matter on a Ride

On long group rides, navigation can quickly become a hassle. The Gixxer SF 250’s turn-by-turn navigation, displayed clearly on the fully digital instrument cluster, proves genuinely useful. The icons are large, legible and easy to follow at a glance.

When the phone isn’t connected, the cluster switches to a minimal layout showing only the essentials — speed, RPM, fuel level and time — keeping distractions to a minimum.

Suzuki has also thought about post-ride practicality. With dozens of motorcycles parked together, the Last Parked Location feature via the Suzuki Ride Connect app makes finding your bike far easier than relying on memory.

Engine, Performance and Ride Quality

Power comes from a 249cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine producing 27.5 bhp and 22.5 Nm of torque. The motor delivers strong low-end punch, making city riding effortless. As revs climb, performance tapers off and the engine becomes noisier near the top end, encouraging relaxed riding rather than aggressive revving.

The six-speed gearbox is mostly smooth, though finding neutral can occasionally be tricky.

On the move, the Gixxer SF 250 proves to be a comfortable all-rounder. The engine doesn’t heat up excessively, the seat remains supportive over longer distances, and the upright riding position suits both city commutes and highway runs. When pushed in corners, the bike tends to straighten up rather than hold a deep lean, something riders should be aware of.

Braking is handled by ByBre callipers with discs at both ends, supported by dual-channel ABS. The brakes offer predictable stopping power, while MRF tyres provide adequate grip for everyday riding. The suspension, though slightly firm, handles city imperfections well and remains stable at highway speeds.

Verdict: A Practical, Future-Ready All-Rounder

The IBW Chai–Pakoda Ride was as much about people as it was about motorcycles. In that setting, the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Flex Fuel felt right at home.

It isn’t perfect. Sleeker LED indicators, a more functional visor and clearer visual differentiation from the Gixxer SF 150 would have made it stronger. But look past those details, and what you get is a motorcycle that works across age groups and riding styles.

Comfortable, easy to ride and future-ready — for around ₹2 lakh, the Gixxer SF 250 Flex Fuel presents itself as a sensible and versatile choice.
