Yangwang U9 Xtreme

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme, BYD’s flagship electric hypercar, has shattered records again — this time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, one of the most demanding race circuits in the world.

Just weeks after clocking a world-record top speed of 496.22 km/h at Germany’s ATP Papenburg test track, the U9 Xtreme has become the fastest electric super sports car ever to lap the 20.8 km Nürburgring, stopping the clock at 6 minutes 59.157 seconds. The lap time, set on August 22, 2025, makes it the first EV hypercar to break the seven-minute barrier at the iconic “Green Hell.”

Record-Breaking Engineering

The U9 Xtreme was piloted by German racing driver Moritz Kranz, a Nordschleife veteran with nearly 10,000 laps under his belt. Kranz credited the car’s balance and advanced engineering for the performance, calling it “a testament to BYD and Yangwang’s development skills.”

Built on the world’s first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform, the U9 Xtreme features four 30,000 rpm motors delivering a combined 3,000 PS. With a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne, it sets a new global benchmark for electric performance.

The car also integrates Yangwang’s e⁴ Platform and DiSus-X intelligent body-control system, technologies that allow real-time “body attitude control” — essentially giving the hypercar race-level agility while maintaining stability at extreme speeds.

Built for the Track

To withstand the Nürburgring’s relentless corners and elevation changes, the U9 Xtreme features a redesigned cooling system, titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic brakes, and GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tires co-developed with Giti. The result is a car that’s as capable on a racetrack as it is blisteringly fast in a straight line.

Limited Production, Unlimited Ambition

BYD confirmed that the U9 Xtreme will be limited to just 30 units worldwide, making it one of the rarest electric hypercars ever built. Its name — derived from “Extreme” with an added “X” for the unknown — mirrors Yangwang’s philosophy of innovation through exploration.

With its twin titles as the fastest car in the world and the quickest electric hypercar at the Nürburgring, the U9 Xtreme signals not just a leap for BYD, but a new chapter in high-performance EV engineering.
