When Electricity Finds Its Soul: Touring with the Ultraviolette F77 Recon

Drumil ModiFeature2 months ago

For the longest time, electric motorcycles have been described using the same set of words — efficient, silent, sensible. They make sense on paper, they make sense for the future, but rarely do they stir anything deeper. Most EVs move you from point A to point B, but very few make you feel anything along the way.

The Ultraviolette F77 Recon challenges that perception.

Designed and built in India, this is an electric motorcycle that isn’t chasing numbers alone. Instead, it focuses on something far more elusive — connection. From the moment you lay eyes on it, the F77 Recon feels different, and that difference only grows stronger once you’re in the saddle.

Design that Looks Fast Standing Still

At a glance, the F77 doesn’t look like a conventional electric motorcycle — and that’s entirely intentional. The sharp, aerodynamic bodywork, jet-inspired front profile and sculpted aluminium bulkhead give it a presence that feels more fighter aircraft than commuter EV. Every line has intent, every surface feels purposeful.

The LED headlamp, clean proportions and aggressive stance ensure that the F77 stands out not because it’s electric, but because it’s genuinely striking. Even when parked, it carries a sense of motion — the kind that makes you stop and look twice.

A Digital Personality with Real Character

Powering on the motorcycle feels less like starting an engine and more like waking something up. The 5-inch TFT display boots into Ultraviolette’s own Linux-based Violette OS, instantly setting the tone for what kind of machine this is. It’s not just smart; it feels intuitive and rider-focused.

Ride modes play a big role in shaping the experience. Glide keeps things calm and controlled for city riding, Combat opens it up for highway use, while Ballistic delivers the full force of the bike when you want to have a little fun. Each mode genuinely alters the character of the motorcycle, making it adaptable without ever feeling artificial.

Leaving the City Behind

Out on the open road, the SuperStreet Recon truly begins to shine. A 10.3 kWh battery paired with a 30 kW motor delivers a hefty 100 Nm of torque, available instantly. Twist the throttle and the response is immediate — no gears, no hesitation, just a clean, uninterrupted surge forward.

The acceleration is deceptively quick. Zero to 60 km/h comes up in just 2.8 seconds, and with a top speed of 155 km/h, the F77 feels more than comfortable keeping pace with fast highway traffic. What stands out, though, is how composed it feels while doing so — fast, but never frantic.

Performance Without Anxiety

Range anxiety is often the biggest concern with electric motorcycles, but it barely enters the conversation here. With over 230 km of real-world riding range and a claimed figure of up to 323 km, the F77 Recon feels genuinely usable for long rides. Charging from 20 to 80 percent takes roughly 2.5 hours — just enough time for a long break before heading out again.

It’s the kind of range that encourages exploration rather than restraint.

Where the F77 Earns Its Name

Head into the twisties and the F77 stops feeling like an “electric motorcycle” altogether. The 41 mm USD front forks, preload-adjustable rear monoshock and rigid trellis frame keep the bike planted through fast sweepers and tighter bends. Add dual-channel Bosch ABS and traction control, and you get a level of confidence that feels unexpected — and thoroughly rewarding.

The bike responds instantly to inputs, allowing you to lean, brake late and carry speed through corners with ease. It’s engaging in a way that many EVs simply aren’t.

More Than the Future

As the sun dips and the city lights return, the F77 Recon leaves you with a realisation. This motorcycle isn’t trying to convince you that electric is the future — it assumes you already know that. Instead, it reminds you why you fell in love with motorcycles in the first place.

In a world increasingly defined by silence and efficiency, the Ultraviolette F77 Recon delivers something rarer — emotion.

Electric, yes. But more importantly, full of soul.
