Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has commenced local assembly of the Tayron R-Line in India, marking another step in the brand’s strategy to expand its premium SUV portfolio for the Indian market.
The Tayron R-Line is being assembled at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra, with production starting in line with the company’s plan to launch the SUV in the first quarter of 2026. The model becomes one of the most recent global Volkswagen products to be locally assembled in India, less than a year after its international debut.
According to Volkswagen, the Tayron R-Line will sit at the top of its India SUV range. It is positioned as a seven-seat premium SUV, offering a combination of everyday usability and sportier styling elements associated with the R-Line badge.
Local assembly is expected to help Volkswagen improve pricing competitiveness and availability while strengthening its operational footprint in the country. The company has been increasingly focusing on localising premium models to meet growing demand for higher-end SUVs in India.
Speaking on the development, officials from the Škoda Auto Volkswagen India group said the start of production reflects the group’s readiness to respond to changing customer preferences and reinforces its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
With the Tayron R-Line now rolling off the production line, Volkswagen is preparing to add another premium offering to its India line-up, which currently includes models such as the Taigun, Virtus and Tiguan R-Line.
Further details on pricing and specifications are expected closer to the official launch.
