Mahindra XUV 7XO : First Drive Review

Introduction

The XUV700 didn’t just succeed — it reset the segment. It arrived with the kind of presence, performance, and tech that made even more expensive SUVs feel a little old-school overnight. And now, Mahindra is back with something that’s clearly been designed to do the same thing all over again.

Meet the all-new Mahindra XUV 7XO — a more premium, more tech-focused, and more future-ready version of what was already a blockbuster SUV. This isn’t the typical “facelift with a bigger touchscreen” story. The 7XO feels like Mahindra announcing, again, that it’s not here to compete quietly.

Design: Familiar, But Sharper Everywhere

At first glance, the XUV 7XO looks instantly familiar — and that’s intentional. The silhouette still carries that tough, planted XUV identity. But once you look closer, you realise almost every visible detail has been upgraded with a more premium edge.

Up front, the SUV gets an all-new full-width grille finished in piano black, with jewel-like talon accents that add a modern, high-end feel. The Bi-LED projector headlamps now look sharper and more sculpted, with sleek DRLs that immediately upgrade the face.

At the rear, the drama continues with diamond-inspired clear lens LED tail lamps, giving the 7XO a more futuristic signature at night.

Completing the stance are large 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, subtle chrome accents, and cleaner surfacing — making the 7XO look tougher, wider, and more premium without losing that original XUV700 presence.

Cabin & Tech: The Biggest Leap Forward

Step inside and it becomes clear where Mahindra has spent the big money.
The XUV 7XO gets what is being called India’s first coast-to-coast triple HD screen setup, and what’s impressive is that it’s not restricted to top variants — it’s available across the range. This triple-screen layout instantly makes the cabin feel far more expensive than before, giving it a proper “next-gen” vibe the moment you sit in the driver’s seat.

Powering this system is the Snapdragon 8155 chipset — the same class of processor used in high-end global luxury cars. In real-world use, that should translate into faster responses, smoother transitions, and far fewer laggy moments.

And then comes the real flex: this infotainment setup supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, meaning streaming content isn’t just a gimmick — it’s genuinely designed to feel cinematic. Add to that the 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and the XUV 7XO’s cabin starts feeling like a rolling theatre more than an SUV interior.

Comfort & Features: Built for Long Drives, Loaded Like a Flagship

Mahindra has also doubled down on comfort, and honestly, the seats deserve a special mention. The XUV 7XO uses high-density foam seats with plush pads on top, built specifically with long-distance comfort in mind. The cushioning feels richer and more supportive than before — the kind of upgrade you notice within the first few kilometres.

And unlike many SUVs where ventilation is reserved only for the driver, Mahindra goes all-in here: both front and rear seats get ventilation, making the 7XO far more suited for Indian summers.

Feature list? It’s basically a tech festival. You get Alexa with ChatGPT integration, BYOD theatre mode, multi-zone ambient lighting, powered seats with memory, and even Boss Mode for the co-driver. On top of that, there are 90+ connected car features, which is Mahindra’s way of saying: you’ll rarely feel like anything is missing.

In terms of cabin tech and feature depth, this is easily among the most loaded interiors you can buy at this price point — and that’s a huge part of the XUV 7XO’s appeal.

Engines: Trusted Setup, Now With More Choices

Under the hood, Mahindra hasn’t changed what already worked — and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You still get the proven 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines with both manual and automatic gearbox options. Importantly, AWD remains on offer as well, keeping the 7XO relevant for buyers who want that extra grip and capability for touring and rough-road use.

This engine lineup has already earned its reputation for strong performance and highway confidence in the XUV700, so keeping it intact makes sense.

Ride & Handling: The Real Game-Changer

If the cabin is where you see the upgrade, the ride quality is where you feel it.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO debuts the world’s first DAVINCI damping system, which adapts in real time to the road surface. The difference this makes is immediately noticeable — especially in India, where roads change mood every 200 metres.

The result is a smoother ride, better bump absorption, and improved stability. Body control feels tighter, and the SUV stays calm over broken patches where many large SUVs tend to bob around. On highways, it feels planted and composed — exactly what you want from a family SUV with touring ambitions. In fact, for a passive suspension setup, this might genuinely be one of the best you can experience in the segment right now — and it gives the XUV 7XO a more premium driving feel overall.

Verdict: Mahindra Has Raised the Bar (Again)

Pricing for the Mahindra XUV 7XO starts at ₹13.66 lakh and goes up to ₹24.11 lakh (ex-showroom) for fully loaded variants. And honestly, at those prices, what Mahindra has pulled off here is impressive.

The XUV700 was already a big hit, but the 7XO pushes the experience further — with a new design edge, a genuinely futuristic cabin, cinema-level infotainment, better comfort, and a much improved ride quality that makes it feel more expensive than it is. The XUV 7XO isn’t just the next chapter of Mahindra’s success story.
It’s Mahindra walking back into the segment and saying: “We’re still the ones setting the benchmark.”
