Audi RS 5 Debuts as 639 PS Plug-In Hybrid with New Torque-Vectoring Quattro

Audi Sport has unveiled the new Audi RS 5, marking the brand’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid RS model.

At the heart of the new RS 5 is a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 510 PS, paired with a 130 kW electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined system output stands at 639 PS and 825 Nm, enabling a 0–62 mph time of 3.6 seconds. An optional package raises the top speed to 177 mph.

The RS 5 is powered by a 25.9 kWh battery (22 kWh net), allowing short-distance all-electric driving. Charging is supported at up to 11 kW AC, with a full recharge taking approximately 2.5 hours.

A major technical update comes in the form of a new quattro system with Dynamic Torque Control, featuring electro-mechanical torque vectoring at the rear axle. The system can distribute torque between rear wheels in milliseconds, improving traction, agility and stability under acceleration and cornering.

Chassis upgrades include RS-specific suspension with twin-valve dampers, a stiffer body shell and optional ceramic brakes. The car rides on 20-inch wheels as standard, with 21-inch options available.

Inside, the RS 5 gets a digital cockpit with performance telemetry, RS-specific displays and configurable driving modes including RS Sport and RS Torque Rear, the latter allowing greater rear-bias for track use.

European order books open in early 2026, with deliveries expected in summer.
